Indiana Fashion Week kicks off with the two-day, Project Runway style INDFW Youth Designer Challenge.On day one of the challenge, aspiring youth designers will visit a local Goodwill Store where they will be given $20 and 45 minutes to gather items to up-cycle into all new, runway-worthy looks. Day one ends with an ideation session, in which the youth designers will sketch the first drafts of the looks they desire to create during the design challenge. On day two, the selected youth will visit the “The Creativity Lab;” a pop-up garment production factory. The youth designers are partnered with mentors from the Indianapolis Chapter of the American Sewing Guild & community designers and given 7 hours to create their looks, which will be exhibited during the finale runway show.This opportunity is open to youth ages 11 to 17 who are either located in Indiana or are able to travel to Indiana for required dates.

Students & parents/guardians must complete permission slip and consent waivers by Friday, April 19, 2020 to participate.

We are proud to offer young aspiring designers with the once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to be part of Indiana Fashion Week!

Students will gain hands-on experience designing and participating in a fashion show.There is no cost to students to participate. However, attendance to the following events in mandatory:

Shopping Challenge & IdeationTuesday, June 16, 202011:00am – 3:00pmDesigners will be provided a Goodwill gift card to use in a timed shopping spree to choose items for their design.Design ChallengeWednesday, June 17, 20209:00am – 5:00pmStudents will use this day to create their piece using sewing machines, fabric, thread, etc. No sewing experience is required.

The Runway ShowsSaturday, June 20, 20207:00pm – 10:00pmStudents will showcase their designs on the catwalk during the finale show of Indiana Fashion Week!

Additional Considerations

Parents/guardians are responsible for the participants’ transportation to/from events.

About the Opportunity

Indiana Fashion Week kicks off with the two-day, Project Runway style INDFW Youth Designer Challenge.

In partnership with Salvation Army, the challenge features eight (8) students who aspire to be a part of the fashion industry. The Twist? These students have little-to-no experience designing.

This opportunity is open to youth ages 11 to 17 who are either located in Indiana or are able to travel to Indiana for required dates.

On the last day of Indiana Fashion Week, the students will have an opportunity to exhibit their upcycled looks during the finale runway show at Dallara IndyCar Factory in Speedway, IN.
