Indiana Fashion Week 2023 Recap Video

Indiana Fashion Week (INDFW) is taking an exciting, new approach to the fashion week model by presenting a multi-faceted event that includes opportunities for education, exhibition, and entertainment. INDFW is a catalyst to fulfilling its mission of utilizing fashion as an innovative way to create impact. Scheduled for August 21-25, the week will include a youth designer challenge, girls empowerment day, and runway show at the Fashion Mall and a finale event in partnership with INDYGo, purple line project featuring Indiana based established designers who are creating pieces inspired by the theme beauty in construction. As home to the Indianapolis Motor Speedway, the NCAA Hall of Champions, the Indiana Pacers (NBA), the Indianapolis Colts (NFL), and multiple NCAA Division I schools, the state of Indiana is most widely recognized as a sports hub. However, Indiana has a rich fashion history, having been the home of fashion greats such as Norman Norell, Bill Blass, Stephen Sprouse, and Halston. To this day, there is a budding fashion community with pioneers like Alpha Blackburn, Nikki Blaine, & Jerry Lee Atwood. In addition to retail giant Vera Bradley, located in Fort Wayne, Indiana. There hasn't been an infrastructure to support the fashion industry and that’s why Indiana Fashion Week (INDFW) was created, to aid in bringing talent, stakeholders, community, organizations and talent together. The week opens with the INDFW Youth Designer Challenge on August 21-22. A partnership with Salvation Army, this two-day reality-style challenge features eight students who aspire to be part of the fashion industry but have little to no experience designing clothes. Day one of the challenge includes a 30-minute, $40 shopping spree at a local Salvation Army store followed by an ideation session. Day two is creation day, where the students work with emerging designers and talent from Indiana to design their looks made entirely from materials purchased during their shopping spree at Stitchworks, a local manufacturing facility. INDFW has partnered with The Fashion Mall to host a community fall fashion show on August 23. The Be Me Girls' Empowerment Day, in collaboration with the Girls Coalition of Indiana on August 24, fuses tech, confidence, and creativity for an enriching experience. Indiana Fashion Week concludes with The Beauty in Transit photoshoot and fashion show, presented by IndyGo, to mark the halfway point of IndyGo’s Purple Line construction. Six designers were commissioned to create looks with the theme surrounding beauty in construction. The six featured designers are Ricardo Rosa of Érico Galbard, Codi Banks, of Witty by Codi, Shamahd Lake of Subtle, Keng Xiong of House of Xiong, Angel Olivera, of Angel Olivera Couture and Beth Bennett of BETHE. We’re also excited to feature some of IndyGo’s Music in Transitartists from Chreece, an independent hip-hop festival, who will walk the runway to kickoff the festival taking place Aug. 26. Fashion "INpacts" is a theme this year highlighting the impact of fashion in the state of Indiana. The word "INpacts" is a play on the state's abbreviation "IN" and the word "impact," which suggests that fashion has a significant influence on Indiana's creative industries and community. At its core, the theme emphasizes the importance of supporting local designers, brands, and organizations within the fashion ecosystem of Indiana. By showcasing Indiana's rising fashion talent, the event aims to promote and elevate the state's creative industry while also providing educational and networking opportunities for fashion professionals and enthusiasts. IndyGo & Girls Coalition is helping us to continue to show how an organization can partner with community projects to accomplish their mission and support local talent and small businesses. https://www.indianafashionweek.com/events-schedule View the creativity and talent of students and entrepreneurs to address community needs and drive social change.
